on location photography
I am an on location photographer, meeting you and your dog at an agreed upon location. This could be at your home, a local park, or at the dog show grounds. I do not photograph out of a traditional studio. We will pick a location that your pet is comfortable in and I will photograph your pet in their natural environment, doing the things they love to do and of course, the connection the two of you share.
I also offer a simple studio backdrop setup that is portable and can be brought to you. Please contact me for more details on this option.
Light is an essential element in creating any photograph and to me, there is nothing like the beauty that only natural light can bring. I prefer to photograph outdoors, using natural light whenever possible. For eldery pets or days with inclement weather, an indoor location that has access to some natural light is ideal. In indoors situations Depending on the time of year, there may be certain times of the day and locations that are better suited than others for your photo session and this will be discussed during your initial consultation.
All sessions are customized based on your specific needs and those of your pet. Most insitial consoltations can take place right over the phone, allowing me the chance to get an idea of what your expectations are as well as any special needs of your dog. From there, we can then determine the best day, time, and location available to book your photo session.
booking your session
The majority of our sessions take place on the weekends but I am also available during the week. I recommend starting around 8:30 – 9:00 a.m. in the morning or later in the day, between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. We are looking for the best times for natural light, as well as when our beautiful Florida temperatures are most tolerable for both humans and canines alike!
To reserve your date, a $75.00 deposit is due at the time of booking. The deposit is applied to your session’s Creative Fee and is non-refundable. We also require a signed contract and model release before your session. The remaining balance of your session Creative Fee is due on the date of your session.
preparing for your session
Unless we are photographing your dog in the security of your fenced in backyard, the need for some sort of restraint is required. Even at off-leash dogs parks and other pet friendly locations, it is always a good idea to be able to leash them when necessary. A collar and leash should be set aside to be brought along for your session. Ideally, the thinner the leash the better. A retractable Flexi leash works well. Show leads are a perfect choice when ever possible.
You may also wish to bring other props and special items to help make your photo session more memorable. A favorite dog toy, decorative bow tie or flower to attach to their collar or even a special sweater or dress. And don’t forget, even if you didn’t plan on being in the photographs taken during your portrait session, chances are, “part of you” will be in the photos. Be mindful of what you are wearing, especially on your feet!
the day of your session
I recommend a quick grooming prior to the session to make sure that your pet is looking their best! You don’t have to take them to a professional groomer. All they will really need is a quick brushing, trimming of their nails, cleaning around the eyes. Additionally, I have found that if a dog is exercised prior to the session, a lot of the excitmement they display with new experiences and people will be much less. Dog’s are also very food driven. Try holding back on their meals and snacks prior to their session. When a dog is a little hungry, they will be more inclined to behave well for treats! If your pet is stressed out, it will show in the photos, and we don’t want that. I will spend as much time as needed to get to know your pet and bond with them before we get started.
A couple of weeks after your photo session, you will be able to preview your photos online in a password protected proofing gallery. You can select your final images and will have the option to buy additional prints and products. There are also several custom order only options. I can help you hand select products and create custom pieces of artwork during an in home ordering session at your request.
After the initial deposit, the balance of the Creative Fee may be prepaid in installments by arrangement, otherwise it is due at the time of your session. Payments can be made by cash, check, PayPal, and all major credit cards.
If for any reason, you need to cancel your session and rebook, please let me know as soon as possible. If the weather on the day of the session will affect the photo shoot, we will reschedule to the next available day to fit your needs. Also, please understand that there may be extreme circumstances when I would also need to reschedule.
I reserve the right to use your photos in my portfolio and marketing materials, but will never give out any personal information to any third parties under any circumstances in order to protect your privacy. If you would prefer that your images not be showcased on my website or Facebook page, simply let me know.
